Pittman out duels Walker for Fonda All Star victory

FONDA, N.Y. - (6-10-10)- By Brian Liskai- All Star Circuit of Champions- Look out…Daryn Pittman is getting very comfortable in his Lelands.com, Mike Heffner owned #27! The Owasso, Ok. native used lapped traffic to pass California’s Tyler Walker and went on to claim the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions victory at Fonda Speedway Thursday night. It was a make-up race, as Wednesday’s event at Fonda was rained out.

The fans were treated to a classic duel from the two experienced drivers as they sliced and diced for the lead while negotiating lapped traffic. And, to make it more interesting, Pittman was chasing the car he had formerly driven with Walker now behind the wheel.

Jessica Zemken, a New York native who has been on a hot streak of late, winning ESS races in the northeast region including Fonda and recording a second place run with the All Stars in Canada a few nights ago, raced into the 30-lap feature lead from her pole starting position. Zemken set a blistering pace with Walker right on her heels. On lap 7 Walker split a lapped car and Zemken to take the lead. A lap later and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer looped it out coming out of turn 2 to bring out the only caution of the race.

Walker used the clean track to pull away slightly, but his fast car quickly caught lapped traffic again, allowing Pittman to close. Pittman was able to follow Walker, waiting for his opportunity. He used lapped machines to his advantage to pass Walker and went on to his second career All Star victory.

“When I get behind that #17 car it gives me even more incentive to win. Lapped traffic definitely came into play. When I was in second I had an advantage because Tyler was trying some things and I got to see what he was doing,” said Pittman beside his Lelands.com, Pasquariello’s Auto Shop, Scrub A Dub Performance Car Wash backed #27.

“The fans were the real winners tonight…that was a heck of a race. When two guys can go at it like that, racing hard in and out of lapped traffic without touching…that is great and I’m glad to be the one who was able to come out on top,” added Pittman, who now calls Pittsboro, Indiana home.

For Los Angeles, California native Walker, his second place run is encouraging for a team that is beginning to gel.

“I’m not really disappointed with second. I got beat fair and square. But, this team is getting it turned around and if we keep working hard the wins will come,” said Walker beside his Peterbuilt, Hunter Truck Sales, Keen Motorsports #17. “We made some wrong guesses with the set-up tonight and sometimes you come out a winner and sometimes you come out a loser.”

Zemken, clearly the fan-favorite in the race, said her third placed finish was a learning experience.

“I got beat by two awesome race drivers tonight. Following them is a great way for me to learn and that’s the only way I’m going to get better. That is my goal…to keep running with them and just keep learning,” said Zemken beside her Tony Stewart Racing, Corr/Pak Merchandise, Eldora Speedway backed #14.

The All Stars kick off a big three-race weekend in Pennsylvania tonight at the historic Williamsgrove Speedway followed by a trip to Lincoln Speedway and wrapping up at Big Diamond Raceway on Sunday.
