Pearson Wins A Nail Biter!
Beaver Dam Raceway has seen three legends races this season and two of them have been absolute nail biters. 22 legends checked in for the Memorial Day Weekend Special. The heat races were full of fast paced action on a smooth and tacky track. Warren Ropp picked up the win in heat number one after jumping out to a large lead. Kim Clover picked up another heat win as she battled her way to the win for the second heat race. Justin Pearson picked up a win in the third heat race which put him at the back of the invert in 11th for the feature race.
The track started to slick off by feature time and the fastest way around seemed to be the top in turns one and two, while the bottom was preferred in turns three and four. Ryan Mech moved from the 12th starting position to 1st place after just a few laps and led until the first caution. Cody Apfelbeck elected to run the bottom on the restart and was able to stay with Mech as the two battled for multiple laps. Justin Pearson had picked his way through the field and saw what lines were working better and was able to split Mech and Apfelbeck and took the lead. Mech was able to battle back into second position as Pearson pulled away for a short amount of time while Mech and Apfelbeck battled. Pearson had this gap until a caution came out with just five laps to go. Mech elected to start on the top and was able to stay with Pearson on the restart and followed his line for the final laps. Pearson was able to fend off multiple challenges from Mech as he collected his first feature win of the season!
This was the second race of the Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series points schedule and the third will take place tonight (5/27) at 141 Speedway.
