Mullen and Dorner Notch First Wins

Luxemburg,WI,7/28/17—Brian Mullen has long been considered one of the top dirt modified pilots in Wisconsin. Friday night’s win reaffirms Mullen’s standing as one of the best around. Mullen came from twelfth on the starting grid to score his first IMCA Modified win of the year. Troy Muench came from eighth to win his second IMCA Stock Car feature. Craig Dorner advanced from fifth for his first IMCA Sport Mod win this season. Paul Diefenthaler started eleventh and won his fifth Street Stock feature. While, Mitch Meier ran from fourth to his third Sport Compact win.

Mark Joski outdueled Konnor Wilinski for the lead on lap one of the IMCA Modified feature. Wilinski though continued behind Joski utilizing the top groove of the track. Wilinski put the pass on Joski for the lead on lap ten as Mike Mashl now joined the battle for the lead. Mashl worked past Wilinski on lap eleven to take the top spot. Todd Dart and Brian Mullen joined the top four on lap thirteen as they both came from deep in the field. On lap fifteen Mullen worked past Wilinski for second and set his sights on Mashl. A late race caution bunched the field up. As Mashl led, Brian Mullen took to the outside of the track as the duo took the white flag. Mullen eased ahead of Mashl and held on for the feature win. Mashl, Dart, Wilinski, and Joski were second through fifth.

Rodney Dart led the opening lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature before Barry VanStraten went to the high line and passed Dart for the lead on lap two. As VanStraten led, Derek Moede ran in second with Troy Muench in third. On lap twelve Muench got two for the price of one as he raced from third to first. VanStraten continued to run second as Shawn Havel moved up to third. As the white flag waved Devin Snellenberger moved to second and immediately challenged Muench for the lead. Muench though was able to fend off Snellenberger for the win. Snellenberger, VanStraten, Billy LeMieux, and Moede rounded out the top five.

In IMCA Sport Mod action Brian Bruechert led the first eleven laps. On lap twelve though Craig Dorner and Troy DeGrave caught the leader. Dorner tip toed around the outside of the tack and into the lead on lap twelve. Bruechert, working the inside lane, stayed right with Dorner and took the lead back on lap sixteen. Bruechert’s lead would only last one lap though as Dorner charged back to the lead on lap seventeen. A caution after lap eighteen set up a two-lap dash to the finish. Dorner would not be denied victory though. DeGrave grabbed second, Chris Budzban was third, Jacob Zellner, fourth, and Shawn Umentum fifth as Bruechert slipped back to sixth at the finish.

Andy Fuhrmann grabbed the lead at the start of the Street Stock feature. As Fuhrmann led, Dave DeGrave and Paul Diefenthaler began to dance through traffic towards the front of the field. On lap seven Diefenthaler went to the outside of Fuhrmann to snag the lead. DeGrave worked past Fuhrmann on lap seven to grab second. Over the remainder of the race DeGrave pressured Diefenthaler, but was not able to muster a pass. Diefenthaler held on for the win. DeGrave had to settle for second. John Hill, Fuhrmann, and Dave Gauger completed the top five.

Mitch Meier took the lead from Mike Zitzer on lap four of the Sport Compact feature and went on to score the win. Zitzer, Mike Meier, TJ Everard, and Nick Everard rounded out the top five.
