Poole Wins Third Straight in Thunder Valley
Drivers from all over North America converged onto the legendary Bristol Motor Speedway to partake in the inaugural Short Track US Nationals. A 51 car field was whittled down to 36 starters for a 50 lap feature event.
Travis Eddy of Beaverton, Michigan would start things off on the pole but it was to be Sean McPherson who angled his way to the front of the field for the opening handful of laps. Despite only holding the lead briefly, the event was a career race for McPherson who was able to hang around with some of the most established names in Modified racing and hold his own.
Chad Poole of Springfield, Ohio, winner of the last two events on the Kickin’ Asphalt Tour decided to add a victory on the concrete hills of Bristol to his resume. The former series champion took command on lap five and continued his impressive march to the 2017 Championship by laying claim to his third straight victory.
Eddy rebounded to finish in second position. Williams Skaggs made his haul from Florida pay off with a third place run. McPherson was impressive in his fourth place finish. Former series champion Brian Nester was the final finisher in the top five.
Next up on the 2017 Kickin’ Asphalt Tour will be the first stop of the year in the state of Michigan, as the travelling stars look to take on the local heroes of the Auto City Speedway, located just outside of Flint on Saturday, June 3.
