UASC/CRA Sprints Head to Canyon Saturday for Hall of Fame Classic

Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts this weekend’s USAC/CRA AMSOIL Sprint Car doubleheader on Friday night, Sept. 30 and Saturday night, Oct. 1 with the Sands Chevrolet USAC “Hall of Fame Classic.”

Damion Gardner leads the USAC/CRA standings to the 3/8-mile oval where his advantage stands at 104 over Richard Vander Weerd in the latest tally as he continues on the path to what would be a fourth consecutive series title and would tie him with Mike Spencer as the only five-time USAC/CRA king.

In fact, Gardner and Spencer scored the victories in last year’s USAC/CRA outings at Canyon.

USAC Southwest Sprint Car leader R.J. Johnson has three wins already this year at Canyon and with his third place run last Saturday at Perris, showed he will be among the favorites as he seeks his first CRA win since a Canyon triumph in 2013.

Austin Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. won last Saturday night’s 9th Annual “Glenn Howard Classic” at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Williams passed Richard Vander Weerd on lap six in his John Jory Corporation/AMA Plastics Spike/Shaver and led the final 25 laps to beat Vander Weerd, Johnson, Brody Roa and Gardner.
