Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway will be full of IMCA Modifieds for the 2016 edition of the Mark Howard Memorial CGS Modified Nationals. The event will cover two nights of action beginning on Friday, July 22nd and concluding on Saturday the 23rd. The main event winner on the final night will receive $2,600.00. A full payout of the second night can be found at the bottom of this release. The full format for the whole entire weekend can be found at http://www.cottagegrovespeedway.com/news/?i=40054&clk=featureNews .

For the second straight year, the CGS Modified Nationals will be running in honor of the late Mark Howard. Howard was a successful racer in the Pacific Northwest before opening his very own race shop in Eugene, Pro Auto Racing, and spending countless time helping drivers stay on the race track. In addition to being a race car shop owner, he was a mentor and inspiration to the many lives and is dearly missed. He also was the Cottage Grove Speedway parts and tire vendor for several years. Mark’s longtime racing number was #26 and so that is why it is $2,600.00 to win.

In local IMCA Modified competition this season at CGS there have been fourteen races with eight different winners. Mark Wauge has won the most times in 2016, with three, while Craig Hanson, Jesse Williamson, Collen Winebarger, and Jake Mayden have all won twice. Single race victors include Curtis Towns, Kinzer Cox, and Kellen Chadwick.

From 2003 until 2011 a CGS Modified National event was held every year except for 2006, which was lost to weather. In 2012 there was no event put on the schedule but it was quickly resurrected the following year in 2013 and has been back ever since. Each installment has produced memories that will never be forgotten. Rick Zuvich’s 2003 triumph with a flat tire, the three-wide battle for the lead on the last lap in 2005, and the dominance of Dustin Dittman in 2011 which saw him become untouchable come feature time.

In eleven CGS Mod National finals, there have been four different winners. With last year’s victory, Jesse Williamson passed Jon DeBenedetti for the most career Mod National wins. Williamson has five while DeBenedetti won four times. Rick Zuvich and Dustin Dittman have each recorded one apiece.

Tickets each night are Adults $13.00, Juniors/Seniors $10.00, Youth (6-12) $5.00, Family Pass $30.00, and Children 5 or under are FREE. As will happen all year long in honor of our 60th Anniversary the 60th fan through the Front Gate gets in for FREE. A Two-Day Adult Pass is being offered for $20.00.

Times for both nights are Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing is scheduled to start around 6:30. For more information, log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
