TULSA, Okla. (July 19, 2016) The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps will take on the Double X Speedway in California, Mo. this Sunday, July 24 to honor one of Missouri’s legendary race officials.

For the 14th year, the track will pay tribute to Clyde L. Wood, who served as the chief starter at the quarter-mile oval from 1975 until his passing in 2002. A figure in Missouri auto racing for 38 years as a Flagman, Clyde Wood flagged the competition at the Double X Speedway when it was still known as Woody’s Speedway.

Defending race winner, and current ASCS Warrior Region point’s leader, Jonathan Cornell, enters the weekend with a pair of championship point leads. With a commanding 313 markers over second place in ASCS competition, the Sedalia native also leads the standings in weekly competition at the Double X Speedway. Winning the last four out of five in overall competition, Cornell has racked up 10 overall victories in 2016.

Drawing 33 cars to the $2,500 to win, $300 to start event in 2015, this year’s event looks to bring just as many of the Midwest’s best as drivers like Tony Bruce, Jr. and Derek Hagar look to unseat Cornell as the champion of the Clyde Wood Memorial which is presented in part this Sunday by Hollywood Blasting and Coatings, Impact Signs, Midwest Speed Shop, and Xtreme Body and Paint.

Looking through tour standings, Evan Martin is currently second with Cody Baker, Danny Thoman, and Austin Alumbaugh making up the top-five. The top-ten rounds out with Tyler Blank, Corey Nelson, Randy Martin, Broc Elliott, and Tyler Thomas.

Sunday, July 24 at the Double X Speedway will open at 1:00 P.M. for Tailgating with Hot Laps getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (CDT). The night’s lineup will also include 600cc Micros and Street Stocks. Admission is $15 for adults. For more information on the Double X Speedway, call (573) 796 – 4694 or look for the Double X Speedway on Facebook.
