Cottage Grove, Oregon- Last week when covering the class previews we talked about some classes that had been around for quite some time at Cottage Grove Speedway. Well in this story we are going to talk about the newest division at the historical ¼-mile clay oval, the IMCA Sport Mods. Created in 2014 this class has had two different champions in the first two years of competition.

There have been nineteen total IMCA Sport Mods main events at CGS and defending track champion Gene Ashley has won the most over the years with eight. What is interesting is that Ashley is unsure of how much he’ll be racing in 2016 which opens the championship wide open to the competition.

The class did see some departures of a handful of drivers to the A Mods but there should be more drivers coming out to race regularly in the B Mods. If Ashley decides not run for the title it just might give an opportunity to Jimmy Owen or Jayson Nelson as potential champions. What is a fact is that the racing is going to be great especially for these drivers just cutting their teeth in Modified racing.

There are thirteen IMCA Sport Mod races on the schedule and the first race is Saturday April 16th. Pit Gates open at 2:00, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing starts at 6:30. Tickets are $10.00 for General Admission (13 and Up), Youth (6-12) $5.00, Family Pass $30.00, and Children 5 or Under are FREE. Pit Passes will be offered for $30.00 each.
