FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from the Jackson Nationals and Huset’s!

Windom, MN (September 8, 2015) – The biggest paying sprint car purse in the history of Minnesota featured the FVP National Sprint League at the 37th Annual Jackson Nationals. Sammy Swindell was the class of the field both nights. Brian Brown broke through Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway to record his first NSL win. This weekend, the series tackles the Nebraska Cup at Eagle Raceway on Friday and the Jerry Richert Memorial at the Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin on Saturday.

Sammy’s a Winner – Sammy Swindell hit the track running at the Jackson Nationals and never looked back. Many thought with the new configuration at Jackson Speedway, Sam Hafertepe’s one-lap record (15.601) had to fall this season. Sammy made sure of that Friday night with a lap of 15.491 seconds. That was the third track record the NSL had set in eight days. Sammy came a heat win short on Saturday night of sweeping the whole weekend. While those behind him waited for a mistake Saturday night, it never happened.

Kevin Wins Too – The silent auction brought the generosity of both those who donated to it and those who bid. $13,600 was raised for Kevin Swindell’s recovery from injuries sustained at the Knoxville Nationals. The NSL did one better, raising that total to $30,000 with a donation of its own! The series would like to thank everyone who contributed!

Brown Breaks Through – Brian Brown has been looking for that elusive first NSL win all season long. He was in shock when it came at Huset’s Speedway, a track that has not been kind to him over the years. It may have moved up on his list, however, as he led every lap Sunday night and held off Tim Kaeding for the win. The Grain Valley, Missouri driver has found speed as of late, banging wheels with Sammy and finishing second Friday at Jackson. He had a podium finish Saturday in the bag before coasting over the finish line in fourth and out of fuel.

Saluting the Greatest Country on God’s Green Earth – The National Anthem was performed in style this weekend. At Jackson, Macey Newhouse and her seven year old niece, Reese Lundt, did the honors to rave reviews! At Huset’s, none other than Knoxville’s Katie Davis made a surprise appearance on the flag stand in front of a packed Labor Day weekend crowd in another rousing performance!

Crowd Pleasing – Craig Dollansky and the TKS Motorsports team have been impressive with the FVP National Sprint League since hooking up in late June. The Elk River, Minnesota driver showed late speed in pursuit of Swindell Saturday night at Jackson. Despite running out of fuel himself, he did cross the stripe second. Dollansky won with the series at the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines in July.

Jackson Festivities – The Jackson Nationals definitely had the feel of an event again! Despite warm temperatures, the Fan Zone was hopping all afternoon. A number of sponsors chipped in, showed up and supported the two days of great racing! An awesome fireworks show provided by GDF Enterprises during Saturday’s intermission had the crowd “oohing and aweing”!

Point Jam – Ian Madsen turned in another solid weekend putting a little buffer between himself and the third place car of Tim Kaeding. However, less than one night’s worth of point separates Kaeding from the seventh place driver, Brian Brown. Of course, Danny Lasoski leads the pack. After Kaeding in third, you have Terry McCarl (-124), Bill Balog (-144), Bryan Clauson (-194) and Brown (-327). With four races left, there is a lot of point fund money on the line. The top ten pays $75,000, $50,000, $40,000, $30,000, $25,000, $20,000, $18,000, $17,000, $16,000 and $15,000!
