Josh Schneiderman – Ready for Sprintweek!

Southern Iowa Sprintweek looms, and Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Racing #49 team are ready. They will compete in the Capitani Classic this Sunday night at Knoxville Raceway in anticipation of next week’s Knoxville Nationals. Last Saturday night at Knoxville, the West Burlington, Iowa driver rebounded from a tough qualifying effort to finish 17th in the feature event.

The Sprint Invaders visited the Dubuque Speedway in northeastern Iowa last Thursday. “We didn’t draw well again and started back in the first heat and ran third,” says Josh. “We ran a two-heat format and ran fourth in the second one. Track position was really key there in the heats.”

Josh would come home seventh in the main event. “We started eighth in the feature and finished seventh,” he says. “There wasn’t a whole lot of ground to be made up for us unless we got going on the starts. The cushion pushed over enough that the top couldn’t keep up with the bottom. The track is so wide there, that it was tough to keep enough speed on top. It was a racy little joint, and the fans were excited to see sprint cars again.”

On Saturday at Knoxville, he would time in a disappointing 21st quick. “We’re just not there in qualifying,” admits Josh. “Obviously, we haven’t put our finger on it. It’s disappointing. I feel like we are racing well, but I’ve been struggling at qualifying. We need to find something quick.”

Starting outside the heat invert meant finishing seventh and heading to the B main. “We were right behind (Terry) McCarl and (Logan Forler) there,” says Josh. “The car was fine. When you run those kind of heats, I always look at the lap times. Ours were right there with the top three cars. I was happy about that.”

Josh would finish second in the B after starting fourth, locking him into the main event. “We were really, really nice in the B,” he says. “What was frustrating for us, was we ran a better lap in the B than we had in qualifying. We were right there with Ian (Madsen) until he moved up to the cushion.”

He would advance from 19th to 17th in the feature. “We moved up a few spots,” says Josh. “We’re getting close to Nationals time, so our already stout competition gets even stouter. There’s no slouches out here, so to come home 17th after how we qualified was a good run for us.”
