Mark Dobmeier – Coming from Behind at I-80!

Unfortunately, for Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Motorsports #13 team, they spent the weekend coming from behind at I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. Qualifying issues put the Grand Forks, North Dakota driver out of the redraw. Nonetheless, Mark would drive into the top ten on Thursday and from 17th to 11th in Friday’s finale with the FVP National Sprint League and the “Road to Knoxville” event.

In Thursday’s prelim, Mark would qualify tenth quick, but miss the redraw. “We weren’t able to hang on to second in the heat,” he says. “We started there and held on to it, until the last lap. (Danny) Lasoski got by us at the checkered and that kind of knocked us out of the redraw.”

The feature saw him start outside of row six. “It was kind of a struggle starting back there,” says Mark. “We were able to get up to tenth. We raced decent, but once you get behind that top eight, and put yourself behind that 8-ball, you’re kind of stuck.”

In Friday’s finale, Mark would time in 17th quick. “We qualified really terrible,” he says. “But we were able to come forward in the heat (sixth to fourth).”

The team went to work on the car for the main event. They would start 17th and come home 11th. “We worked on a few issues heading into the feature,” says Mark. “We were able to come forward a ways, so we were working really well. The qualifying just killed us. On big tracks like I-80, it’s tough to make up a lot of ground. Once everyone gets stretched out, it’s harder to pick them off.”

Mark and the #13 team headed back to North Dakota to get ready for this weekend. “We decided to head home and regroup,” he says. “We’re getting things ready for the Nationals coming up. We’ll be at the Capitani Classic on Sunday and Osky on Monday.”
