Cottage Grove Speedway was back in action on Saturday August 1st for the annual Wallbanger Cup. This race is ran in honor of the late Mark Howard and is the biggest race of the season for the CGS Street Stocks. Also on the card was the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Late Models.

The Street Stock main event would be a caution filled affair. Despite all of the stoppages it would be an extremely entertaining race. Kevin Roberts from Gresham would be the early race leader in his Big Sky Landscaping/Powers Transport/Gray's Automotive #88 Camaro. Roberts would lose the lead on lap five to Albany's Bricen James.

James, in his James Gang Pizza/Lebanon Auto Body/Crocker's Cars/Linn-Benton Insurance #13 Regal, would be in the coveted position for much of the main event. James would lead the field to the break and would continue to stay there despite several challenges.

A late race restart would see Kyle Yeack give James a run for his money. Yeack would make a bonsai last lap pass on James to beat him out at the line by a mere 0.081 seconds. It would be the first career Wallbanger Cup win for Yeack and his Cascade Outdoor Power Equipment/Laura Gillott at Keller Williams Real Estate/Unlimited Business Services/R.G.S. Performance #47 Cutlass team.

Bricen James was a respectable second followed by Cottage Grove's Evan Britton in the D&L Truck Parts/Robert Howell Logging/Todd's Auto Body/Clark Printing #85 Nova in third. Chris Sine from Eugene was fourth in his Pro Auto Racing/Quantum Mechanics/Murphy Plywood/Stipe Engine Specialties #24 Camaro while the Alliance Automotive/Eaton's Tire & Automotive/FinishLine Graphics/M&B Cylinder Heads #41C Camaro, driven by Cody Smith of St. Helens, was fifth.

Big thanks to go out to all of the sponsors for making this race a reality. Those folks include Brad's Car Tunes, West End Performance, Powers Transport, Pro Auto Racing, Hedge Carter Gutter Service, Curt Deatherage Auto Electric, Boyce & Sons Landscaping and Building Materials, Lester Hankins, Clark Printing, Furniture Options, Barnwood Recycling, Quality RV Repair, Redwood Northwest, and Big Sky Landscaping.

In the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints it would all be about Patrick Dills. The Cottage Grove ace would grab the lead on the start and would not look back from there. Dills would lead the entire way to collect his second win of the season in his Jacob Daniels Attorney at Law/Oregon State Representative Cedric Ross Hayden/M.D. Yearous Logging/Devine Continuous Gutters #5D KPC.

Michael Kofoid, of Penngrove, California, was second in the DES Inc./Dan Simpson Racing/Red Line Oil/LaChance Kofoid Enterprises #3K Maxim while in third would be the Redmond Trucking/Umpqua Sand & Gravel/Ken's Dry Cleaning/Double R Powdercoating #12 J&J. Bricen James, doing double duty, would finish the Tim Galloway owned Myers Logging/Automotive Sheetmetal/Trifer Glass & Tinting #51 XXX in fourth and Eugene's Raquel Ivie was fifth in her Bi-Mart/Three Rivers Casino Resort/Brook's Cut Rate Auto Parts #70 XXX.

The IMCA Modified feature would see a great number of cautions but was still a great race. Kinzer Cox of Cottage Grove was the early pace setter and remained in that position until lap five. Springfield's Jake Mayden and Cox would battle lap after lap side by side. Cox, driving the Robert Howell Logging/Hard Knocks Brewery/Salisbury Farms/White Lightning Explosive Targets #1K Loose Gruff, would reclaim the lead on lap eight only to have it taken away on the following lap by Mayden.

Mayden would lose the lead on lap fourteen to Cox again but got back around him on lap fifteen. Mayden would stay in the lead the rest of the way to win his first IMCA Modified victory for him and the Embers Bar & Grill/Chuck Bracelin Trucking/Springfield Tire Factory #5M Dirt Works team.

Kinzer Cox was second while the Mark's Auto Body #27 GRT by Phillips of Mark Carrell from Redmond got third. Fourth place would go to Cottage Grove's Curtis Towns in his Superior Fuel Cells/IBEW Local 280/Valley Rose Construction/West End Performance #24 X-Factor and the Springfield Tire Factory/Tan Republic/Superior Fuel Cells #11 X-Factor of Steven Sturdevant of Springfield was fifth.

The Late Models would have a wonderful race for their main event. Curtis Towns, who was also doing double duty, managed to seize the lead on the opening lap. Towns, driving the Superior Fuel Cells/All Pro Steel/Rapid Delivery Service/Superior Silk Screen & Embroidery #42 X-Factor, would be put under considerable pressure in the closing laps.

Jesse Williamson, of Eugene and driving the Jerry Schram owned Schram Brothers Excavating/Century III Stables/Bodies By Steve-O #16W MasterSbilt, would pass Towns on lap twenty-two. Towns would get the lead back on lap twenty-three and managed to hold off Williamson for the win. It would be the sixth win of the season for Towns in the Late Model division in 2015.

Jesse Williamson was second and behind him in third was the Drager Performance/Doerfler Farms/ATV Parts Central/Battle Buddies of Central Oregon #9 GRT of Rob Campos from Scio. Lebanon's Tony Brakeall ended his night in fourth, driving his Sure Flow Concrete Pumping Services/Crocker's Cars/Monty's Racing Engines/James Gang Pizza #13 Swartz, while the O&O Farms/Kartco Racing #5 MasterSbilt chauffeured by Salem's Britton Donahoo was fifth.
