Lebanon, Oregon- Vernonia's Doug Davenport found his way back to dirt track racing after a few years away. In fact he hasn't been racing at all for over a year. He ran half of a season on pavement in 2013 but made a full comeback in 2015. So far he's had a great time.

“For being so long out of a car it's gone really well,” commented Davenport, “I've been in the trophy dash pretty much every week but one and was fast qualifier a couple of times. When it comes to main events we are starting to get better”

Davenport is a former Modified champion at River City Speedway in St. Helens back in 2011. It had been around a dozen years or so since he was last in a Super Dirt Late Model and now chauffeurs his Joel Olson Trucking/Spiralz Salon/Hinkle Fishery/FinishLine Graphics/Drager Performance/GRT Race Cars/Cornett Racing Engines #8 GRT. Doug has eight starts and his best finish was a sixth last week which makes him very excited for this weekend for the Coors Clay Cup.

“I'm going in to win it, that's my goal every week,” he continued to say, “fortunately we have a good car and engine program but unfortunately we've been struggling with knowledge but we're figuring it out. The competition is very tough because you have all those veterans that never give up and all these young kids that are really fast too.”

Saturday the Pit Gates will open at 1:00 PM, the Pit Meeting will take place at 2:30, Front Gates open at 3:30, and Racing starts at 6:00.
