Mark Dobmeier – WoO Hard-charger at River Cities!

Mark Dobmeier’s run with the World of Outlaws at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota earned him hard-charger honors. Unfortunately, struggles early in the night cost him his fourth win with the series. The weekend ended with an exciting second place run in weekly action at Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota. This week, the FVP National Sprint League is back in action Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. The Jimco Motorsports #13 team is also planning a return to Huset’s on Sunday.

Mark would time in 10th quick in his flight on Friday at River Cities. “We had high hopes with the Outlaws coming to town,” he says. “Unfortunately, we struggled early in the night and didn’t put down a good qualifying effort.”

He would finish fifth in his heat, transferring to the main event. “We made it out of the heat,” says Mark. “It was kind of an odd track for River Cities. The bottom stayed around pretty much all night.”

Mark started 19th in the feature. “We kept adjusting on the car, and finally got some speed in the feature,” he says. “We trucked it up to eighth. We had a pretty good run, but it wasn’t the run we had hoped for.”

The WoO traveled to Huron on Saturday and Mark timed in 16th quick. “It had been ten years since we had been to Huron,” he says. “That was with the NOSA organization. It was neat to go to a different track. We qualified kind of poorly. We survived the heat race (finishing fifth). It was kind of the same as River Cities in that we were adjusting to get better all night.”

Starting sixteenth in the main event, he would checker 13th. “The car was better in the feature,” says Mark. “It was kind of hard to pass. The bottom was fast. You could run the top, but it was too far around to make up any ground. We spent the majority of the race behind Sammy Swindell. It took me about the whole race to pass him, but we finally did. It was a tough track to make up ground on.”

Things started well at Huset’s on Sunday. “We were able to set quick time, and run by everyone in the heat race (from sixth),” says Mark. “We had a really good heat race.”

Mark would start outside row four of the feature and finish second after a good battle. “We drew the eight pill,” he says. “We were able to get up to second, and Tim Kaeding was leading it. He had a good lead on us, but we were able to run him down. I think the fans were excited. We slid each other a couple times. I had enough speed to catch him and push him around. I was able to slide him, but that slowed us down so much, that he got back underneath me. It was a good race for the fans.”
