Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour
Brian Ruhlman Wins Michigan Dirt Cup Event at Berlin Raceway
Marne, MI – Berlin Raceway was proud to host the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour on Saturday night with 41 of the area’s best modified drivers. Brian Ruhlman, from Clark Lake, Michigan, came out on top with an impressive run in the 17-lap feature event which earned him $1,500. The race was scheduled for 25 laps, but a late caution red flagged the race.
Travis Stemler and Jeff Erickson Jr. would bring the field to the green flag. One lap in Jacob Poel, who started 6th, moved up into 2nd place. Poel and Stemler fought for the lead early. Poel had motor issues on lap five and entered the pits. Stemler stayed on top until lap 15 where he brought out the caution for hitting the wall in turn one. Brian Ruhlman claimed the lead on lap 15 and earned the win. David Mielke and Mark Anderson ran 2nd and 3rd until Lap 17, where Mielke lost a tire and Anderson flipped in turn one, which ended the race.
The QuickCar Hard Charger Award goes to David Mielke, who passed 13 cars in the A-Main. Brian Brindley received the Fast Lane Award for passing an overall 15 cars in the Heats and A-Main combined. David Mielke and Garrett Wiles were the provisional starters, being the next two in MDC standings, for the A-Main, which was 1500 to win.
The next event for the Michigan Dirt Cup is the Championship Race on Saturday, September 20th, at I96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. The gates will open at 3:00pm and racing will begin at 6:30pm.
