Gonyo, Quenneville score Northern Modified Challenge wins
Veterans Leon Gonyo of Chazy and Vince Quenneville of Brandon, VT carried the checkers in a pair of 30-lap Northern Modified Challenge events Saturday July 26.
Gonyo held off Jessey Mueller on four restarts to keep throughout in the first 30-lap event and went on to record his first Northern Modified Challenge win of the year. Travis Bruno came home in third, followed by Jason Durgan and Mark Lamberton.
Quenneville, the inaugural NMCS champion in 2013, used a three-wide move to take the lead from Speedy Bresette with four laps remaining in the second 30-lap event. Bresette crossed the line in second-place, but failed post-race tech inspection for being lower than the allowable ride height.
Chris Frennier inherited the runner-up spot, followed by Andy Heywood, Lamberton, and Nick Heywood. Gonyo finished sixth ahead of Bruno, Mueller, Tyson Drown, and Jamie LaFountain.
Robert Gordon rallied late to win the Key RD Trailer Sales Renegade feature. Jamy Begor, Josh Terry, rookie Dylan Rabtoy – who led much of the way – and Lance Rabtoy finished 2-3-4-5.
Scott Richner came from 12th on the grid to win the Busch Mini Modified feature. Positions 2-3 went to Dale O’Neil and Tyler Bressette after apparent runner-up CJ LaVair was disqualified.
