Willamette Speedway would produce some fantastic racing on Saturday July 5th before a packed house and when all of the action was concluded a breathtaking fireworks display would close the evening out. The fine folks at Crocker’s Cars would present the action as the X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models, Wirth Wireless IMCA Modifieds, and Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman were all on tap at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval.
The X-Factor Race Cars Super Late Models would be on hand for the Crocker’s Cars Firecracker 100. The extra-long race would test all the driver’s equipment as well as their stamina. Justin Dittman from Lebanon, driving the Frank’s Fab and Auto/Utterly Deliciouz/Lester Trucking/Duty Bros #11 Trak-Star, would pace the field for much of the first quarter of the race before losing the top spot on lap seventeen.
The new leader would be Sodaville’s Tony Brakeall. Brakeall would lead for much of the race in his Sureflow Concrete Pumping Services/Liberty Automotive/Swing Construction/James Gang Pizza #13 Swartz. For fifty-eight laps Braekall’s mount would blaze the trail but around lap seventy-five Portland’s Joey Tanner would make a move to get the lead.
Tanner, in the All-In Property Investments/X-Factor Race Cars/Schram Brothers Excavating/Gullett Racing & Customs #111 X-Factor, would keep his entry in first and make some clutch moves in traffic to secure the lead and win his third victory of the season at Willamette.
Crossing the wire is second would be John Duty out of Happy Valley in the Don Frank Flooring/Mid Ohio Graphics/Metro Services/Darren and Mardell Williams #5 Rocket entry while third was the J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines/Tim Logan Racing #37 Rocket of Rob Mayea from Bend. Justin Duty, John’s son and also from Happy Valley, in his Don Frank Flooring/Big Sky Landscaping/Mid Ohio Graphics/Metro Services #15 Rocket crossed the line in fourth and the top five was completed by Tony Brakeall in fifth.
The Discount Race Car Parts/Gordy Lee Photography/Frisbie Motorsports #SW Shaw by Jeff Taylor mount driven by Corbett’s Collen Winebarger was untouchable in the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified main event. Several cautions would occur but each restart Winebarger would master them. Winebarger would lead the entire distance and would capture his second Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified win of the campaign.
Medford driver Monte Bischoff was second in his Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction/Lucas Oil Products #F1 Impressive and coming home in third was Albany’s Craig Cassell in the Ester Lee Motel of Lincoln City/Dr. Mary Harada Breast Cancer Specialist at Samaritan Health Services/Debra Herndon Family Nurse Practitioner #25 Rocket by Ruhlman. Crossing the wire in fourth would be the A-Line Concrete Cutting/Shepard Performance/Van Raden Industries #15M Rayburn of Matt Mitchell from Vancouver, Washington followed by Springfield native Dustin Comer in fifth driving the S.D.M.F. Race Cars/Mid-Valley Metals/F.M. Jones & Sons Quality Trucks and Autos/K.C. Race Engines #ZERO S.D.M.F.
In the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman Todd Miller, from Albany, was the early race leader. Unfortunately his Linn-Benton Insurance/James Gang Pizza #00 Boyd would get caught up in a wreck resulting in him having to the back of the field. That would give the lead to fellow Albany chauffeur Brian Smith in the Wirth Wireless/Hackney Racing #2 Swartz driving for car owner Glen Hackney.
Smith would dominate the remainder of the distance and would finish the race in first but unfortunately he missed the scales afterwards resulting in him being disqualified. That would give the win to Turner’s Ron Berry for car owner Nick Anderson and the #97JR Rayburn team for the second time this year.
Todd Miller would end up finishing in the second place position despite being involved in a wreck earlier in the feature and behind him in third was Briley Pompe out of Philomath in the X-Factor Race Cars/The Storage Depot/Lawson Chassis #0P Lawson. Lebanon’s Jeff Rash would capture fourth in the Glen Hackney owned Wirth Wireless/Hackney Racing #1 Swartz while Dave Foote of Coos Bay was fifth in his Jon Inskeep Racing Engines/Dave's Race Shop/Les Schwab Tires #75 Dirt Works.
