Otto Sitterly Ties Mike Ordway with Record Sixth $10,000 Mr. Novelis Supermodified Title
OSWEGO, NY (August 10, 2025) - Saturday night marked the 38th running of the 75-lap, $10,000-to-win Mr. Novelis Supermodified at Oswego Speedway presented by C’s Farm Market and Beverage Center of Oswego. It was another Otto Sitterly showcase as he captured the pole in time trials and ultimately claimed his sixth Mr. Supermodified title, tying the all-time record held by Mike Ordway Sr.
Sitterly, behind the wheel of the new John Nicotra No. 7 Hawk Jr. Chassis, led the field to green alongside Logan Rayvals for Oswego Super Challenge #3, a $1,000-to-start event. The race got off to an intense start with Sitterly leading the pack of 23 Supermodifieds through the opening lap. Rayvals settled into second, while Dave Shullick Jr. edged out cousin Tyler Shullick for third. Tyler Thompson rounded out the top five early on.
Josh Sokolic made an early charge, advancing from 12th to 8th within the opening laps, trailing Dave Danzer and Michael Barnes. The first caution flew on lap 15 after Tyler Shullick clipped Lou LeVea Jr. while attempting to work past the slower car. This incident also collected Barnes, Danzer, and Brandon Bellinger, with Thompson suffering heavy contact with the spinning LeVea Jr. and the foam barrier in Turn 3. Barnes, Bellinger, and Danzer after repairs, were each able to continue.
On the restart, Sitterly held firm in front, followed by Rayvals, Dave Shullick Jr., Tyler Shullick, and Sokolic now in fifth. By a third of the way through, Sitterly had opened a commanding lead over the top five. Disaster struck for one of the championship contenders on lap 27 when Dave Shullick Jr. broke, promoting Tyler Shullick to third, Sokolic to fourth, and Barnes to fifth.
At the halfway point, the running order was Sitterly, Rayvals, Tyler Shullick, Sokolic, Barnes, Bellinger, Joe Gosek, Camden Proud, Jeff Abold, and a recovering Danzer. With 40 laps in, Sitterly was navigating heavy traffic, allowing Rayvals to close the gap slightly - though it was nowhere near enough to threaten the leader.
Meanwhile, Barnes capitalized on lapped traffic to grab a podium position, moving past both Sokolic and Tyler Shullick and into third. Approaching lap 50, Sokolic continued his impressive drive, in an exciting battle with Tyler Shullick for fourth. Sokolic made a slick move under the Bodnar No. 96 heading into Turn 3, while Shullick went wide trying to pass a slower car.
By lap 52, Barnes had reeled in and soon made the pass on Rayvals to claim the runner-up spot. With 20 laps to go, he held second but was nearly half a lap behind Sitterly, who remained dominant at the front. Rayvals ran an outstanding race, but struggled slightly through slower traffic as the laps wound down, and this helped to propel Sokolic from 12th to a strong third-place finish, with Rayvals falling to fourth ahead of Jeff Abold, who put together a tremendous drive from 15th to fifth.
In the end, it was all Sitterly. He cruised to victory by more than 11 seconds over Barnes, extending both his Oswego Novelis Supermodified points lead and Oswego Super Challenge points lead significantly. This win marked Sitterly’s 51st Oswego victory spanning Oswego trim, and ISMA/MSS top wing events.
Completing the top 10 behind Sitterly, Barnes, Sokolic, Rayvals, and Abold were Tyler Shullick, Bellinger, Danzer, Gosek, and Proud.
In victory lane, a humble and grateful Sitterly reflected on his historic sixth Mr. Supermodified title:
"I’ll take that one after starting 13th last week. I think it might have been the third time in these races we’ve drawn the pole, so of course we’ll take that. But I also think people might forget the times we’ve drawn 11th or 12th. Mike Ordway was a hell of a race car driver, and all the years he and Clyde Booth came here, they really left their mark. So, it’s an honor for me to even be mentioned in the same sentence with Mike Ordway Sr. There’s a bunch of people here tonight - Todd from Onyx Hose & Tube, all the folks at Flip Electronics, Eddie Shea at Shea Concrete for helping with the Challenge, and John and Wendy Brush from Corr/Pak - I couldn’t do it without all the great sponsors. I’ve got to thank my fabulous crew, and of course, everybody is thinking of my buddy Mark Letcher, and I want to say the same for the push truck driver - but this one is for you, Mark."
Believe it or not, Oswego Speedway’s regular season wraps up this Saturday, August 16, as Oswego County Tourism presents Championship Night for the Novelis Supermodifieds, Pathfinder Bank SBS, and 350 Supermodifieds. Fireworks will cap off the evening.
