Hardy Banks $2K in Hagerstown Crate Win
By Buddy Long
Facing a talent laden field of 35 competitors, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Virginia fattened his bank account Saturday, taking the 30 lap $2,000 to win feature in the Crate Late Model Class at Hagerstown Speedway. Starting 3rd, Hardy wrestled the lead away from Trevor Collins, following an early race caution, then survived numerous restart challenges from Devin Brannon, eventually extending his lead enroute to his first Hagerstown win of the season, and second of the weekend, following a Friday night Limited Late Model win at Potomac Speedway. Brannon came home second, followed by Travis Campbell, Jacob Burdette, and Ed Pope III. Logan Roberson was top qualifier for the night, also taking a heat race win, along with Hardy, Brannon and Davin Kaiser.
Matching Hardy’s win total for the weekend was Ken Duke Jr of Winfield, Pennsylvania in the 25 lap event for the IMCA Racesaver Sprints. Backing up his Friday win at Clinton County Speedway, Duke bolted by polesitter Ryan Lynn, then proceeded to run and hide from the field, lapping all but the top 8 machines in the process for his first Hagerstown win of the season. Kolby Weaver chased Duke through lapped traffic to a second place run with Kasey Weaver, Steve Kenawall Jr, and Lynn completing the top 5. Heats for the 22 cars on hand went to Duke, Lynn, and John Scarborough.
In the 15 lap feature for the Pure Stocks, Nathaniel Younker sped to his first win of the season, fending off last weeks winner Brandon Churchey, with William Ecton Jr, Nick Fogle, and Randy Linaburg completing the top 5. Heats went to Younker and Blake Reed.
Connor Cantwell scored his first Hagerstown win in the 15 lap Classic Car Feature in their first appearance of the season, topping his Dad Steve Cantwell Sr, with Cody Altland, Steve Cantwell, and Dustin Wiles completing the top 5.
