Jimmy Phelps Returns to Brewerton Speedway Modified Victory Lane

BREWERTON NY (August 1, 2025) – Jimmy Phelps won opening night Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature back in May. Since then, victory lane has eluded him until Friday night.
Phelps would take the lead on lap 11 with a perfectly executed slider in turns one and two getting by Dylan Zacharias. Then Phelps used a veteran winning move taking away Amy Holland’s lane who was pressuring him for the lead on the bottom of the speedway. The win was not easy as he had to outrun Holland’s 358 powered machine at the checkers.
With his victory Phelps became the first driver with more than one win this season.
Other winners on Neivel Precision Plumbing night. Jason Parkhurst Jr. (DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman) Zack Babcock (AmeriCU Credit Union IMCA/STARS Mod Lites) Chris Bonoffski (Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stocks) Shannon Pitcher (Wingless 600 Micro Sprints).
Matt Smith and Dylan Zacharias brought the Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature down to the green on a fast and multi-groove racetrack with Smith grabbing the early advantage.
On lap three, Zacharias running on the high side of the speedway would blast around Smith to be the new leader.
The yellow would wave on lap 8 when second place Smith broke. The restart would be Zacharias, Phelps, Jim Witko, rookie Nick Root and Zach Payne.
On lap nine the yellow would wave again when Witko had a right rear tire go down.
Phelps on lap 11 would use a slider in turns one and two to get by Zacharias to take over the lead.
With 15 laps showing on the scoring tower Phelps still showed the way out front with Amy Holland from 10th, Zacharias, Root, and Chris Hile were the top five.
Phelps and Amy Holland were in a two-car battle for the lead on lap 20 with Zacharias, Root, and Larry Wight who was running the top of the speedway from 14th raced for third through fifth.
After feeling pressure from Holland who was fast on the bottom, Phelps went to the bottom taking away Holland’s lane.
Phelps stretched his lead over Holland on lap 20 with Wight, Zacharias, and Root the top five.
Over the final laps Jimmy Phelps was able to outrun Amy Holland to the checkers by 0.416 for the exciting win. Larry Wight, Zach Payne, and Dylan Zacharias had his best run of the season finished fifth.
Brian Harber jumped out to the early lead in the 25-Lap DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman feature.
With 5 laps showing on the scoring tower, Harber was still quick out front with Colby Herzog, Jason Parkhurst Jr., Joe Trichilo battling for second through fifth.
On lap 6 Parkhurst went to the top of the speedway to drive by Harber for the lead and then dropped back to the bottom of the speedway.
Parkhurst would hold a one-second lead over point leader Tyler Corcoran on lap ten. Herzog, Harber, and Trichilo still raced for top five spots.
With 10 laps to go Parkhurst would still show the way out front with Corcoran, Herzog, Tony Finch II from 11th, and Brett Sears from 8th showed in the top five.
The yellow would wave on lap 17 erasing Parkhurst advantage setting up a battle to the checkers.
Corcoran would use the top of the speedway on the restart to drive into the lead.
The final caution would come on lap 23 setting up a dash to the checkers.
All eyes were on Corcoran who had a softening left rear when the race went back to green.
Jason Parkhurst was able to muscle his way by Tyler Corcoran to take the win. Somehow Corcoran was able to finish second with Joe Trichilo, Nick Ventura, and Teddy Clayton completing the top five.
Joe Garafolo would lead the opening three laps of the 20-Lap AmeriCU Credit Union Mod Lite feature when the yellow would wave. Zack Babcock would take the lead on a when the race went back green.
On lap 5 Babcock, Garafolo, Mike Mullen on a two-race win streak were in a three-car battle for the lead. Joe Isabell and Jacob Dupra raced fourth and fifth.
At the halfway mark Babcock was getting pressure from Mullen with Garafolo, Isabell, and Dupra still in the top five.
Babcock put some distance between himself and Mullen with five laps to go. Isabell would move into second one lap later and set his sights on Babcock.
Zack Babcock was too quick the rest of the way picking up his first win of the season. Joe Isabell, Joe Garafolo, Mike Mullen, and Jacob Dupra completed the top five.
Mark your calendars for Friday, August 15 for night one of the 2nd Annual Beast of the East Showdown for AmeriCU IMCA/Stars Mod Lites. Teams from all over the Eastern United States, Ontario and Quebec are expected for this 4-night racing swing.
Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stocks points leader Chris Bonoffski was the class of the field in the 15-Lap feature ending Nate Powers five race win streak. Nate Powers finished second followed by Zak Petrie, Justin Guyle, and Jack Taskey to round out the top five.
The 20-Lap 600 Non-Wing Micro Sprint feature saw Mitchell Bard lead the opening laps until Shannon Pitcher raced into the lead on lap ten. Once out front, Pitcher drive away from the field for the win. Mitchell Bard, Ivan Forney, Tommy Paige, and Tyler Catalano finished second through fifth.
Friday, August 8 The Regan Companies and Empire Power Sports will present a big night of racing as we are in the final month of weekly racing.
On the fast and family affordable race card will be the popular Kids Power Wheel Racing, plus Tracey Road DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, DOT Foods DIRTcar Sportsman, AmeriCU Credit Union STARS Mod Lites, and Mirabito DIRTcar Four Cylinder Super Stocks.
