Clay Harris charges to podium finish in Diamond Nationals opener at Lucas Oil Speedway

Marching out to the Midwest for the weekend, Clay Harris checked into 34 Raceway (West Burlington, Iowa) on Thursday afternoon to kick off a three-day weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Harris started 17th in the $15,000-to-win show, but recorded a DNF after losing an engine. Clay was able to borrow an engine for the remainder of the weekend.

With the new powerplant installed, Harris entered into a field of 36 Super Late Models at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Friday afternoon.

After finishing third in a heat race, Clay started 11th in the Diamond Nationals opener and stormed forward to finish on the podium in third. Harris trailed Ricky Thornton Jr. and Jonathan Davenport while Garrett Alberson and Devin Moran completed the Top-5.

With $25,000 up for grabs in the finale on Saturday, Harris took a provisional to start the 50-lap main event and once again stormed forward to finish 12th.

Harris is now 14th in the series point standings.
