Alberson rallies for $15,000 victory with Lucas Dirt at 34 Raceway

New Mexico Native Drives to Second Career LOLMDS Triumph

DUBUQUE, Iowa (07/14/25) – Persistence paid off for Garrett Alberson on Thursday night at 34 Raceway, as he made a late rally to capture his second career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) victory in the Roberts Motorsports / Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 58 Longhorn Chassis.

The 2022 O’Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year paced the opening 35 laps from the pole before briefly slipping to second, only to mount a late charge and reclaim the top spot on lap 47. He held off Hudson O’Neal in the closing laps to secure the $15,000 payday.

“That was a crazy race right there,” Alberson said. “You know, we went hard on tires, and on some of those restarts, the track kept hacking. At first, I thought it was going to go our way, and then later I started skating around a little bit, and it was a little dirty here and there. It was like that last run we actually cleaned it up on the top and got that right rear going, and we just never quit.”

Alberson’s weekend began Thursday at 34 Raceway, where he qualified third-fastest in his group and powered from third to first in his heat race to earn the pole position for the main event. He led the first 35 circuits before Brandon Overton briefly took command, but Alberson rallied to regain the lead on lap 47 and sealed the victory.

From there, the Roberts Motorsports team traveled to Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway for the 19th annual CMH Diamond Nationals, which drew 35 LOLMDS entries to the premier facility. Alberson continued his strong form, recording a fourth-place finish in Friday’s preliminary feature before advancing forward 12 positions in Saturday’s $25,000-to-win finale to cap the weekend with a solid fifth-place performance.

Alberson remains in fifth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.

Alberson faces a quick turnaround as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series resumes on Tuesday with the Kosiski Family 53 at Iowa’s Shelby County Speedway. The week wraps up at Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.) with the 15th annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass, culminating in a $75,000-to-win finale on Saturday night.
