Pair of top-5 MSCCS results for Mitchell on Independence Day weekend

Over the Fourth of July holiday, Jon Mitchell raced in a pair of shows with the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) and finished no worse than fourth.

On Friday, Mitchell was part of a 21-car MSCCS field at Many, Louisiana’s Sabine Speedway for a $3,000-to-win program. He opened the night by qualifying his No. 5 Super Late Model with the fourth-quickest time in his group. After taking the checkered flag in Race B2, Mitchell began the 30-lap feature on the 3/8-mile oval from the eighth position. He climbed six spots in the race and finished as runner-up, 1.236 seconds behind Morgan Bagley. Chad Thrash, Brandon Carpenter and Ross Camponovo completed the top five.

The next night, the MSCCS schedule shifted to the quarter-mile Super Bee Speedway in Chatham, Louisiana, where Mitchell was one of 25 series competitors. He qualified third in his group and finished fifth in the Top 6 Dash, putting him on the third row to begin the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win main event. He climbed one spot and finished fourth after Thrash, Carpenter and Bagley. Fifth place went to Mike Palasini Jr.
