Final Sprint Car Race of 2025 Saturday Night

Here they come race fans. Those ground pounding speed devils of the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series (OCRS) are coming to town Saturday night for the final sprint car racing event at the Salina Highbanks for 2025. This is the 15th racing season under the ownership of Keith & Brandy Sanders who, along with Dave Bohannon, reopened the racing facility in 2011 after the track sat silent for a brief spell. The AmeriFlex / OCRS sprint series has conducted events at the Highbanks in every single season since the track reopened. This is the fastest track these sprint cars compete on due to the killer 22 degree banking it possesses. Therefore, for those who are all about the sheer speed of what these machines can do, these events are circled annually by racers and fans alike.

In addition to the OCRS sprint cars, the NASCAR sanctioned Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series will be on the card as well which entails the Servpro of Mayes & Wagoner Counties B-Mods, Dawson Roofing Super Stocks, AmeriFlex Hose Factory Stocks, S&J Plumbing Pure Stocks, Colvin Aircraft Front Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Drive Trophy Cars. All these teams will be raring to go after taking a mid-season break for the 4th of July holiday.

Scribble Notes -
Saturday will be the 31st AmeriFlex / OCRS event at the Highbanks since the reopening in 2011. Here are some interesting tidbits about the previous 30 events:

17 different drivers have scored AmeriFlex / OCRS main event wins at the Highbanks. Alex Sewell of Broken Arrow OK leads all drivers in feature victories with 8 (2018, 2019, Two in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). Sheldon Barksdale of Norman OK has 3 trophies (Two in 2016 and 2024). Whit Gastineau of Moore OK has 2 wins (2011, 2022) as does Shayla Waddell from Oklahoma City (2012 - 2016) and Alex DeCamp of nearby Locust Grove OK scored twice (both in 2014).

The 13 other drivers with one win a piece are:
Sean McClelland (2011), Jamie Passmore (2012), Jeremy Allen (2012), Harli White (2013), Casey Wills (2013), Andrew Deal (2013), Brian McClelland (2014), Shane Sellers (2015), Zach Chappell (2017), Mickey Walker (2017), Mike Goodman (2018), Blake Hahn (2021) and Danny Wood (2023).

Gastineau's 11 years of victory separation is the longest spread followed by Barksdale's 8 years. Of the 8 wins Sewell has, they have all come within the last 13 OCRS races held at the Highbanks. Some rumblings are being heard there is a collection being taken up by a slew of drivers to send Sewell and his family to Hawaii for the weekend.

Fast women -
As the list shows, Shayla Waddell and Harli White have put the boys in their place a total of 3 times between them on the Highbanks. There is one more lady racer who won on the Highbanks. It just didnt come during the Sanders owned years. In 2006, Christi Passmore (now Grindstaff), took first place honors. In that race, current open wheel superstar Brady Bacon was just learning the sprint car game when he actually took checkers first. However, in post race tech inspection, the car was found to have an unapproved tire and after recalculation of the finishing order after a disqualification was passed down to Bacon, Passmore was elevated to the winners spot. She thus became the first female winner of the OCRS sprint car series. Kacee Frazier is another lady racer that has won an OCRS main event for a total of four ladies who have scored victories. Frazier's win was at Monett Speedway in 2013.

2025 Sprint Wing Dancers -
As with what has transpired with all racing this year due the spring and early summer weather, only 9 events have been held so far in AmeriFlex / OCRS competition in 2025. There have been 8 winners in those 9 events. Danny Smith, the original owner of the series in the early 2000's has 2 wins. The other victors are: Jake Nail, Alex Sewell, Emilio Hoover, Lane Goodman, Conner Lee, Whit Gastineau and Steven Shebester who took checkers at the most recent event held at the Lawton Speedway last Saturday. Hoover comes into the Highbanks event as the series point leader.

Best Wishes Lane -
Open Wheel racer Lane Goodman was recently injured on the first night of a 2-day USAC National midget event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Goodman was fitted with a back brace due to his injury but was able to leave the hospital and he was back at the track the following night as a spectator. All of us at the Salina Highbanks Speedway wish you a successful and speedy recovery Lane.

Weekly gang in spirited points fight -
Plenty of battles happening with the NASCAR sanctioned Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series divisions. For starters, Mitch Keeter holds a slim 31 point lead over Justin Shoemaker in the B-Mod division. In the super stock class, Logan Brown is just 41 markers ahead of Randy Moses Sr. while Bobby Wolfe is just 9 points behind Moses Sr. and Randi Goins is only one marker behind Wolfe.

Factory stocks see Dalton Garrison is only 30 bean counts ahead of Jeran Frailey and even closer yet is the pure stock division as Cole Holman holds a whopping 7 point lead on Larrett Daniels. Charles Bumgarner sits third just 13 points from Daniels. The 2 classes with the most cushion are the 2 Trophy Classes. In the rear wheel drive side of things, William Avilia is 72 points ahead of Jasie Morrow while the front wheel sector sees Anthony Smith with 88 points on Joe Hoover. It's time for everyone to jockey for that stretch drive as after this Saturday, we are down to 9 point races to go.

FINAL CHANCE to see the lightning quick sprint cars for 2025 at the Highbanks folks and we look forward to seeing you there!
