USAC Southwest Freedom Tour Finale at DCRP Next Month!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 24, 2013) – While the winged Sprint Cars of the United Rebel Sprint Series take to the Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval this Friday night, just one month remains before traditional Sprint Cars take to the popular 3/8-mile racetrack in southwest Kansas.

The USAC Southwest Sprint Cars will venture to the Midwest, wrapping up the four-night Freedom Tour with two nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday, August 23-24.

The Dodge City double will follow the opener at Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway on Wednesday night, August 21, and then Freedom Tour round two on Thursday night, August 22, at Wichita’s 81 Speedway.

The top contenders with the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars are expected for next month’s Freedom Tour. And, with ASCS and NCRA engine rules compliant with the USAC Southwest, a number of local and regional competitors are expected to contend for the money with a $2,500 winner’s share up for grabs on each of the four nights.

The USAC Southwest forces will be led to Oklahoma and Kansas by Phoenix shoe R.J. Johnson, who racked up his eighth series win of the season this past Friday night at El Paso Speedway Park in west Texas.

Johnson has amassed an 86-point lead in the title chase over defending Arizona Sprint Car champion Charles Davis, Jr., of Buckeye, AZ, with Mike Martin, Ronnie Clark and Shon Deskins rounding out the top five.

The rest of the current top ten in USAC Southwest points includes Josh Pelkey, Chris Bonneau, Andrew Reinbold, Brian Hosford and Mike Bonneau.

The USAC Southwest Sprint Cars will be joined on Friday night, August 23, at DCRP by the IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars, with IMCA Modifieds and United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds rounding out the August 24 Freedom Tour finale with the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars.

Both nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park will get under way at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are just $12 for the Friday night portion on August 23 and $15 for the Saturday portion on August 24. Children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Following this Friday’s Fire & Safety / EMS Night featuring the URSS Sprint Cars and the August 23-24 USAC Southwest Freedom Tour double, only two of 18 scheduled nights of competition in 2013 at DCRP will remain including championship chase action on August 31 and the season ending Jerry Soderberg Championship Memorial Event on September 28.

Dodge City Raceway Park is located on the south edge of Dodge City, KS, on US 283, then 0.9 miles west on US 56, then 0.1 miles south. For more information, contact the track at 620-225-3277 or check www.dodgecityraceway.com.
