Marlar Banks $50,000 Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway

LOLMDS '24 Slate Concludes with Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora

WINFIELD, Tenn. (10/12/24) – In a season filled with setbacks and adversity, Mike Marlar returned to his winning ways over the weekend with a $50,000 victory in Saturday’s Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway aboard his Skyline Motorsports No. 157 / Truck Country / Bruening Rock Products / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Can-Am Auto Salvage / Petroff Towing / Longhorn Race Car Super Late Model.

The Winfield, Tennessee native regained the lead from Bobby Pierce on lap 48 of the feature and paced the remainder of the 100-lap affair to capture his sixth win of the season and his 21st career LOLMDS triumph.

“It’s been a trying season for sure,” Marlar said. “I love my guys; they’re my family. It’s been rough. I mean, usually, I don’t get that emotional, but man, we’ve been through it. I knew the track would clean up pretty fast; I thought I was in trouble when it cleaned up there. I had some good runs but didn’t want to be in that traffic. I finally got the open track, and he [Pierce] was struggling a little bit, so I got by him there, and you know he’s tough to beat. It’s fun racing with those guys. I am getting to be the old guy in the crowd, and you know them young kids can still make me better all the time.”

After Mother Nature spoiled the first attempt to run the event in late September, Mike Marlar rejoined a stout field of 38 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries at Brownstown (IN) Speedway on Friday as the C.J. Rayburn Memorial kicked off the 45th annual Jackson 100 weekend.

With a third-place outing in his heat race positioning him on the fifth row for the $10,000-to-win preliminary, Marlar charged forward eight spots in the 40-lap affair to claim the runner-up honors. He joined race-winner Ricky Thornton Jr. and Bobby Pierce on the podium.

Parlaying Friday’s speed into Saturday, Mike topped the overall speed charts with a blazing 13.907-second lap in time trials before placing first in his heat race. After pacing the opening five circuits of the feature, Marlar surrendered the lead to Bobby Pierce but stayed within striking distance as the 100-lapper continued. He tracked down Pierce on lap 48 and led the final 53 circuits to snap his winless streak with a $50,000 payday.

The triumph marked his sixth win of the season and the 21st LOLMDS victory of his career.

Marlar is currently seventh in the latest series point standings.
