Hedgecock Bags “The Butterball” with Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels/Ultimate Heart of America Series at Richm
RICHMOND, KENTUCKY (October 12, 2024)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels and Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series would co-sanction the 37th Annual VP Racing Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY on Saturday evening for what would be the final event for both tours for the 2024 racing season. Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN would lead all fifty-nine laps of the event and claim the $12,059 payday.
The win for by the 32-year-old Hedgecock was his first of the season with the season and made him the fourteenth different driver to win on the tour’s nineteen race schedule. The victory would be Hedgecock’s eleventh career series victory and came aboard his BMF Race Car with an Eagle Race Engine and with sponsorship from BMF Race Cars, Eagle Race Engines, Georgia Mountain Pool Company, Service Transport, Inc., E-Z-GO, Vineyard Enterprises, Circle H Services, Currin Construction, Viper Risk Management Group, Hoosier Tire, SFP Performance Systems, Integra Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing, Arizona Sport Shirts, Brucebilt Performance Parts, VP Racing Fuels, Martel Sign Company, and Hypercoils.
Cory Hedgecock would take the lead at the start of the 37th Annual VP Racing Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial Valvoline A-Main contest, with Camaron Marlar, Ricky Weiss, Josh Rice, and Jensen Ford giving chase. The front five would remain the same as Hedgecock would stretch his lead and was about to begin lapping slower traffic when the caution appeared on lap nine for fifth place running Jensen Ford, who had slowed on the backchute and would pull to the infield, done for the night. Hedgecock maintained the lead on the restart, with Marlar and Weiss battling for second, with Rice and Seth Daniels fourth and fifth. Weiss would grab second from Marlar on lap ten, with Daniels taking fourth from Rice on the same circuit. Rice would continue to pressure Daniels for fourth and would retake the spot on lap twelve. Hedgecock would continue to pull away from the pack and would start lapping slower traffic on lap eighteen, while Rice starting rolling the top side of the track and claimed third from Marlar on lap nineteen. The next caution would wave on lap twenty-one for debris in turn four and during the caution, third place running Rice would pull to the infield with mechanical issues and be finished for the event. This restart would again see Hedgecock continue to lead, with Weiss, Marlar, Daniels, and Rusty Schlenk second through fifth. With Hedgecock pulling away once again, Daniels and Schlenk would begin a spirited side-by-side battle for the fourth position. Hedgecock would begin lapping slower traffic again by lap twenty-nine, with Schlenk finally securing fourth from Daniels on lap thirty-four. The top five would remain the same until the next caution waved on lap forty-six when Tyler Collins would slow at the bottom of turn two. The restart would only see one more lapped completed when Derek Fisher would slow in turn two. Hedgecock would again control the restart, while Marlar would get by Weiss for second, with Schlenk and Jared Hawkins in fourth and fifth. As Hedgecock again pulled away from the field, Weiss would reclaim second from Marlar on lap fifty, while seventeenth-place starting Freddie Carpenter would take fifth from Hawkins on the same lap. Marlar would work past Weiss and take second back on lap fifty-one and continue to battle for the spot, allowing Hedgecock to continue to pull away from the field. Hedgecock caught the rear of the field and began working lapped traffic on lap fifty-six, with Weiss retaking second from Marlar again on the same tour. The final caution waved for debris with two laps remaining, setting up a green/white/checkered finish. Hedgecock would lead the final two laps and score the victory, with Weiss, Marlar, Schlenk, and Carpenter completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Henry Hornsby III, Jared Hawkins, Rod Conley, Dalton Brown, and Josh Henry.
