Championship Weekend Is Right Around the Corner

Championship weekend is coming up in just a few short weeks at Motorplex at the Mill!

With the postponement of the August 3rd race due to heat it's a double header finale that will see tons of action and the first two track champions crowned in our track's history.

Friday Night will see our regular Modified and Pro Late divisions joined by the Bandoleros and the Mini Stock Triple Crown race. For the Mini Stocks it is a three race three track series between Southern Idaho's three tracks in Motorplex at the Mill, Meridian Speedway, and Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls. Expect to see a large car count in one of the most exciting divisions in the Southern Idaho area.

Saturday will be Championship Night and will see the Modified and Pro Late Model Champions crowned as well as the Bandoleros for a second night of action and the return of the Legends. Last time out the Legends put on what would arguably be the best race of the season with 20 cars hitting the track and battles taking place throughout the field and only having one single car yellow in the 40-lap affair. We expect another strong car count and fantastic race from the class again.

In the Modified division Kyle Latham has the championship all but locked up. With a dominant season winning at a 70% clip, Latham pretty much will just have to show up on Friday to lock up the title and then Saturday will be a celebration of the tracks Division 1 Championship. Latham will just have to finish third or better in the first main event Friday or just not have Ian Wood win and he will have it officially locked up before the night is even over. Further down the standings though 2nd through 4th is all up for grabs. Ian Wood on the back of two top three finishes sits in second with Father John Wood in third. John was injured in a hard wreck in last races Pro Late Model Main and is done for the season meaning Wood will need to defend his points lead over Shawn Flagstad (-9) and Sterling Hardman (-13). With four races in two days he can either distance himself or lose it all very quickly making this the points battle to watch over the course of the weekend.

In the Pro Late model division Travis Milburn had a dominant win in the Labor Day weekend contest keeping him in the Championship Points hunt but still, is in a distant fourth 27 points back. With Milburn winning and taking all the qualifying points the two top cars over the course of the season Zach Telford and Eric Rhead took home second and third and the four point gap between the two stayed the same. Dan Lowther 3rd place in points had a rough race with mechanical issues and maintained his points position but now sits 23 points back and will need some help to get back in the points title chase but is still close enough with two races to go to get back into it. The focus will be squarely on the top two though who have both been the model of consistency with neither finishing outside of the top three all year. Telford will try to hang on to his slim four-point lead over Rhead which can evaporate in just one qualifying session where the top five receive points scaling 5 to 1. Each driver has bested the other in qualifying and the mains so it is anyone's guess who will come out on top after two full days of racing.

Make sure to come on out and watch two great days of racing and be there to celebrate a dominant season being wrapped up by our soon to be Modified Champion Kyle Latham and an intense down to the wire points battle between Zach Telford and Eric Rhead in the Pro late Model division.
