Brennon Willard

7th-place finish for Willard in MLRA Ron Jenkins Memorial finale

During the Labor Day holiday weekend, Brennon Willard hit the track three times with the Lucas Oil Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). He posted a hard-fought top-10 finish along the way.

The trio of events kicked off with the two-day Ron Jenkins Memorial at Wheatland, Missouri's Lucas Oil Speedway on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday evening, Willard was one of 28 MLRA drivers taking part in the opener of the 10th annual event at the pristine 3/8-mile facility. He drove his Willard Cattle No. 3 Super Late Model to a sixth-place finish in his heat race, then started 21st in the night’s $5,000-to-win feature. As he was climbing through the field in the 30-lap race he was caught up in a crash just past halfway, leaving him unable to complete the rest of the program. He posted a 23rd-place result.

The next night saw 29 MLRA Super Late Models at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” for the $12,000-to-win finale. Willard took fourth in his heat, starting him 13th in the 40-lap A-Main. In a seeming case of deja vu, he was involved in an accident at the race’s midway point for the second night in a row. This time, however, he could stay on track and climbed from near the rear to record a seventh-place finish.

The MLRA Labor Day schedule wrapped up Sunday with the fourth annual Wiener Nationals. The event brought 30 teams seeking a $10,000 victory to the 4/10-mile Moberly (Missouri) Motorsports Park. Willard finished fifth in his heat race but did not start the 30-lap feature.

After the Labor Day weekend shows, Willard remains 11th in MLRA points.
