Oberkramer collects pair of MLRA top-10 finishes in Labor Day weekend shows
For most of the summer, Mason Oberkramer’s duties with his family trucking company kept him away from the racetrack. However, as the summer drew to a close on Labor Day weekend, he took on three days of competition with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) and turned in multiple strong performances.
On Friday and Saturday, Oberkramer participated in the 10th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.
Twenty-eight MLRA teams descended on the 3/8-mile “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” for the $5,000-to-win opener on Friday evening. Oberkramer finished sixth in his heat race aboard his Premier Flatwork No. 93 Super Late Model and started 22nd in the 30-lap feature. He ran into trouble and recorded a 24th-place result with a DNF.
Saturday was much better for Oberkramer in a 29-car field at Lucas Oil Speedway. He was unable to transfer through his heat, but moved on to the $12,000-to-win finale via a runner-up effort in his B-Main. Oberkramer started the 40-lapper from the 18th position and sped through the field to a sixth-place finish.
On Sunday, the MLRA slate shifted to the 4/10-mile Moberly (Missouri) Motorsports Park, where 30 MLRA Super Late Models were entered in the fourth annual Wiener Nationals. Oberkramer nabbed the fourth spot in his heat and started 13th in the 30-lap, $10,000-to-win main event. He scored his second consecutive top 10, coming home ninth.
