Mitchell scores podium finishes at 67 Speedway and Ark-La-Tex
On Friday, Jon Mitchell and his team made a last-minute decision to race their Tommy Dowden Logging No. 5 Modified in Arkansas and Louisiana over the weekend. The result was a pair of finishes in the top three.
Mitchell was one of 15 USRA/IMCA Modified drivers at the quarter-mile 67 Speedway of Texarkana in Texarkana, Arkansas, on Friday evening. He turned in a fifth-to-second run in his heat race and rolled off third in the 20-lap A-Main. He led one lap in the feature and ultimately came home as runner-up to Dustin Hyde. Chase Hatton finished third, while Jake Huckaby and Justin Whitehead were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The next night, Mitchell traveled south for a $1,000-to-win USRA Modified show at Vivian, Louisiana’s Ark-La-Tex Speedway. Seventeen Modiifeds were in the pit area at the quarter-mile track. Mitchell took the checkered flag in his heat, putting him second on the grid to begin the 20-lap main event. He led the race’s first three circuits and brought home a third-place finish behind Chris Henigan and Dustin Henigan. Steven Gaddis took fourth and Jacob Twomey rounded out the top five.
