Jeff Taylor

Runner-up result for Taylor at Batesville

Jeff Taylor returned to the cockpit at his home track over the weekend as he participated in the IMCA Modified portion of the Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway.

Piloting the No. 31M car, Taylor was among 36 Modified racers at the 3/8-mile oval in Locust Grove, Arkansas, when the event kicked off on Friday.

That night, he drove from fifth to win his heat race and started on the pole in the 20-lap feature. He led from laps 11 to 19, but relinquished the top spot to fellow Shaw Race Cars driver Raymond Merrill on the final circuit. Taylor took the checkered flag just 0.404 seconds behind Merrill, while Wendell Wallace, Roger Witt and Ashton Wlkey completed the top five.

On Saturday 33 IMCA Modified teams descended on Batesville for another complete show. Taylor turned in an eighth-to-second run in his heat, then started 12th in the A-Main. He slipped five spots and came home 17th.
