Top-5 finishes for Thompson in Minnesota and South Dakota

Starting in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and ending in the Mount Rushmore State, Cody Thompson finished no worse than fourth on three consecutive days of IMCA Modified racing from Saturday through Monday.

On Saturday evening, Thompson traveled to the quarter-mile Worthington (Minnesota) Speedway and entered his No. 25c Modified in the track’s Salute to Ag night. After a sixth-to-second run in his heat race, Thompson started fifth in the A-Main. He picked up three spots in the 20-laper to finish in the runner-up position, 3.095 seconds behind winner Cole Bents. Jordan Rogotzke took third, while Sean Barragan and DJ Clinton finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The next two nights, Thompson raced in South Dakota as he participated in the final two events of the 2024 IMCA Modified Summer Challenge Series. A $1,500 first-place prize was up for grabs in each show.

On Sunday, Thompson was one of 27 Modified competitors at Interstate Speedway in Jefferson. He turned in a third-place effort in his heat and began the 30-lap feature from the ninth spot. He charged ahead seven positions on the 5/16-mile track and finished as runner-up again, this time taking the checkered flag 0.929 seconds behind Chris Abelson. Joel Rust, Chris Mills and Jeremy Mills completed the top five.

Finally, on Monday evening, Thompson was among 20 IMCA Modified entrants at the 4/10-mile Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City. He claimed the second spot in his heat race, putting him third on the grid to begin the 30-lap A-Main. He came home fourth behind Tim Ward, Rust and Abelson. Kyle Brown rounded out the top five.
