Brandon Sheppard records third-place finish in WoO's Hawkeye 100 at Maquoketa

A four-race swing with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series kicked off for Brandon Sheppard and the Sheppard Riggs Racing team on Wednesday afternoon with a visit to Highland (IL) Speedway for the Beat the Heat 40.

With 33 Late Models entered at the quarter-mile oval, Sheppard outran pole-starting Daryn Klein in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory. Chasing a $10,000 payday in the feature, Brandon faded to fifth near the halfway mark of the 40-lapper before muscling back to fourth at the checkers.

After Thursday’s stop at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) fell to wet weather, Brandon followed the World of Outlaws to Maquoketa (IA) Speedway on Friday for the doubleheader weekend. Pinned on the sixth row for the Hawkeye 100 opener via a third-place finish in his heat race, Sheppard clawed forward one spot to finish 11th.

On Saturday, Sheppard stormed into the $20,000-to-win Hawkeye 100 finale with a heat race victory. After sitting through a nearly three-hour long rain delay, Brandon capped off his weekend with a third-place finish in the 60-lap feature. He joined race-winner Brian Shirley and Nick Hoffman on the podium.

Sheppard extended his lead atop the latest World of Outlaws point standings to 64 markers.
