Robards grabs pair of top-10 results at Coles County, LaRose takes on Viola
A two-track slate was on tap for Spartan Transportation-backed RS12 Motorsports during the first weekend in August. During that time, Harrison Robards came ever so close to grabbing a checkered flag, while Zander LaRose took on some of his toughest competition yet.
On Saturday, Robards had his weekly date with the 1/8-mile Coles County Speedway in Mattoon, Illinois, where he competed in both the A-Class Wing and A-Class Non-Wing programs.
In A-Class Wing, Robards won his heat race from the pole, starting him second in the 20-lap feature. He finished in the same spot, crossing the start-finish line just a few tenths behind winner Larry Drake. Brody Bridgeman, Danny Vicino and Collin Shain completed the top five.
In the A-Class Non-Wing ranks, “Dirty Harry” took sixth in his heat and started the A-Main from the fifth spot. He scored a sixth-place result in the 20-lapper.
Meanwhile, Zander LaRose was also in action as he raced in the Backroad Rumble at ViolaBoyz Backroad Speedway in Viola, Illinois. He competed in the ultra-competitive 36-car Restricted Box Stock class at the 1/8-mile oval starting on Friday evening.
LaRose qualified with the 21st quickest time and went on to finish fourth in his heat race. He then grabbed the third and final transfer spot in his B-Feature to move into the 15-lap main event. He started 16th in the race and moved forward three positions to register a very respectable 13th-place finish.
