Freeman snaps winless streak with Southern Nationals at East Alabama Motor Speedway

Evaluating Options for Upcoming Plans

COMMERCE, Ga. (08/05/24) – Payton Freeman collected his first win of the season over the weekend with a Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals triumph at East Alabama Motor Speedway on Friday night aboard his Coltman Farms Racing / Freeman Plumbing / Georgia Recycling Group No. F1 Rocket Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Commerce, Ga., native led the final seven laps at the Alabama oval to secure the $7,553 winner’s payday and his first career victory with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals.

“Man we really needed this more than a lot of people know,” Freeman said. “We haven’t gotten to race a ton this year, but every time I feel like we’ve raced, we’ve been really competitive and in contention to win races. These Ray Cook races man, they’re hard to win .. it’s hard to believe this is my first one, but hopefully it’s the first of many.”

Payton Freeman joined the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) to kick off a doubleheader weekend with a pair of rescheduled events.

With 22 Late Models entered for Friday’s opener, Freeman locked his spot into the main event with the fifth-fastest qualifying effort overall. Starting in fifth aboard his Coltman Farms Racing No. 1 Late Model, Freeman started making ground just before halfway and found himself in the runner-up spot on lap 31. After race-leader Austin Horton left the track with mechanical issues, Payton inherited the top spot and led the final seven laps to the checkered flag.

The victory marked his first career Southern Nationals triumph and first win since August 26th, 2023.

The following evening at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway, Payton started on the pole of the Roscoe Smith Classic and led 11 circuits before settling for a third-place outing behind Michael Page and Spencer Hughes.

The team is still evaluating their options for their upcoming plans, but will be posted at www.PaytonFreeman.com once they have been decided.
