Matt Tifft

Trio of Pennsylvania races for Tifft on Independence Day weekend

After two weeks of turning left and right with the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, Matt Tifft returned to the dirt from Friday through Sunday. He competed at three Pennsylvania tracks in his GUNK No. 57 Super Late Model and scored a top-five finish along the way.

On Friday, Tifft opened his Keystone State slate by racing for a $3,000 top prize in the Independence Day Special at Hidden Valley Speedway in Clearfield. He scored a third-place result in the feature on the quarter-mile oval.

Next up, Tifft took on Marion Center Raceway where he was part of a 31-car field on hand for the Nathan Lauer Memorial. The fourth annual event at the quarter-mile speed plant paid $5,000 to the Super Late Model winner. Tifft claimed a third-place finish in his heat race, starting him ninth in the 40-lap A-Main. He suffered a DNF after an accident and brought home an 18th-place result.

Finally, Tifft and his team moved on to Erie and Eriez Speedway on Sunday evening for the United Late Model Series Mike Farr Memorial. The event and its $4,100 first-place prize brought 28 Super Late Models to the 3/8-mile oval. Tifft grabbed the runner-up spot in his heat and started sixth in the 41-lap main event. However, he ran into trouble as cars piled up and finished 23rd.
