Tifft takes 10th in Mid-Ohio TA2 run
Dirt ovals gave way to the twists and turns of Lexington, Ohio’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Matt Tifft over the weekend as he raced in the TA2 class of the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli for the first time since 2018. He competed in the Mid-Ohio SpeedTour event behind the wheel of the No. 52 B’laster Ford Mustang from the Mike Cope Racing stable.
During Friday qualifying for the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race, Tifft laid down a lap of 1:26.021 around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile circuit, putting him 13th on the grid.
With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees during Saturday’s 45-lap main event, Tifft’s air-conditioning unit immediately failed and the heat inside the car reached the 160-degree mark. Despite the adversity, Tifft ran around the 15th spot for the majority of the race and moved forward near its conclusion to score a 10th-place result.
Best of all, Tifft’s new son, Camden, was attending his first-ever race at Mid-Ohio, accompanied by his mother, Jordan.
