Hicks weathers rough weekend at Smoky Mountain and Ultimate

Benji Hicks made the long haul to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon for the first night of the Mountain Moonshine Classic with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

With a strong 42-car field on hand, Hicks qualified 16th-quickest in his group and made up one spot in his heat race. Starting sixth in his last chance race, Benji came up one spot short of making the feature with a fourth-place finish.

Hoping for better luck in Saturday's finale, Benji did not make any competitive laps after slamming the wall in qualifying which ended his night early.

Heading back closer to home on Sunday night, Hicks was one of 19 Late Models at Ultimate Motorsports & RV Park (Elkin, N.C.) for the Sidney Langston Memorial. Still dealing with some mechanical issues, Benji recorded a DNF in the $15,000-to-win feature.
