Fifth-place finish in Jay Jones Memorial at Red Hill
Friday night found Kyle Steffens in action Kankakee County Speedway (Kankakee, Ill.) competing in the DIRTcar Modified ranks for the Tom Pasek Memorial.
With the inaugural event drawing a stout field of 45 Modifieds, Steffens raced into the $5,094-to-win opener with a heat race victory. Pinned on the fourth row for the A-Main via the redraw, Kyle suffered a broken driveshaft that ended his night on lap 27.
For the Jay Jones Memorial on Saturday at Red Hill Raceway (Sumner, Ill.), Kyle backed up the third-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a runner-up heat showing. With a $5,555 payday up for grabs in the feature, Steffens steered to a consistent fifth-place finish. He trailed Will Krup, Lucas Lee, Josh Harris, and Cole Falloway to the checkers.
