Sanders takes on MLRA competition at Lucas Oil Speedway

When this weekend’s scheduled Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway fell to weather, Rodney Sanders turned his attention to Super Late Model competition in the Midwest. On Friday and Saturday, he drove Keith and Leah Hammett’s No. 29 machine in a 44-car field at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

Sanders was a part of both main events in the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) season opener.

On Friday, Sanders finished fourth in his heat race on the 3/8-mile track and started the 40-lap, $7,000-to-win A-Main from 13th on the grid. He registered a DNF and a 17th-place result.

With a $20,000 winner’s check up for grabs in the Saturday finale, Sanders was fourth in his heat for the second consecutive night, then rolled off from the 15th starting position in the 60-lap feature. He climbed four positions to come home 11th.
