“IT’S FUN GOING TO THE RACES RIGHT NOW!”-BAPS MOTOR SPEEDWAY SPRINT CAR SUNDAY HIGHLIGHTS
YORK HAVEN, Pa.: When Danny Dietrich goes to a track in central Pennsylvania this season, the speed is there, and he is near the front.
Dietrich doesn’t win every night. Nobody does. But he is in contention, which always seems to be the case when he rolls into BAPS Motor Speedway for a Sunday 410 Sprint Car show.
The win column got another stroke Sunday night on Piper Advertising Night at the speedway. Dietrich won a tight battle with Kyle Moody before driving away to victory in the 25-Lap main event. He earned $5,000 for his third triumph of the season.
“We were rolling,” Dietrich said afterward. “Jake, James, Chad, Eric, myself, and Shawn … we’re jelling well right now. It’s fun when you are rolling like this and just look at each other, sometimes, and know what to do. We’ll just keep plugging away, and it’s fun going to the races, right now.”
Dallas Schott started on the pole, but Dylan Cisney got the jump and took the lead. As for Schott, he got sideways and spun between Turns 3 and 4, which forced a complete restart.
Cisney set a pretty good pace at the front of the field, stretching his lead over Kyle Moody and Dietrich, who started seventh. The pace was slowed again on Lap 5, when Kenny Edkin spun in the second corner.
Moody got a good jump on the restart and slipped in front of Cisney in the second corner. There was slight contact between the two drivers, but Moody and Cisney continued and held down the first two spots.
Dietrich flexed on Lap 6, when he squeezed between the Turn 2 fence and Cisney to take over second. He started to chase Moody, but the leader set a pretty good pace and remained out front.
The red flag was displayed on Lap 12, when Rick Lafferty had flames coming out of the engine compartment. When the race went back to green, Dietrich gave chase but struggled to cut into Moody’s advantage.
That changed three laps later. Dietrich closed going down the backstretch on Lap 17 and charged into Turn 3, pulling off the slider to wrestle the top spot away. Moody tried to retake it on the next lap, but Dietrich had too much momentum and maintained his spot at the front.
A late caution gave Moody and the rest of the field a shot. Dietrich was up to task, however, and drove away to a 2.989-second victory at the finish.
Moody settled for a respectable second-place finish, with Cisney nailing down a third-place run. Freddie Rahmer started 10th and came up to fourth, with Troy Wagaman Jr. completing the top five.
The Wingless Super Sportsman and Creekside 358 Late Model Feature was rained out. The Late Model feature will be run on April 27. Wingless sportsman have been added to the Saturday May 11 card and will also run their make up feature that night.
