TBJ sweeps IMCA Modifieds at Marshalltown Speedway

Tom Berry Jr. competed in two IMCA divisions at Marshalltown (Iowa) Speedway on Thursday and Friday, picking up his fourth and fifth feature victories of the year in the King of the High Banks program.

On Thursday, Berry’s No. 11x IMCA Modified was among 30 cars in the class at the quarter-mile oval, where a $1,000 first-place payout was up for grabs. Berry was tops in his heat race and began the 20-lap feature from the pole. He led flag to flag, taking the victory by 1.755 seconds over runner-up Tim Ward. Cody Overton, Trevor Fitz and Todd Shute completed the top five.

Friday brought 27 Modifieds to Marshalltown for another complete show paying $1,500 to win. Berry again won his heat race and started from the top spot in the 30-lap A-Main. He wired the field for the second consecutive night, this time crossing under the checkered flag with a gap of 0.756 seconds to second-place finisher Joel Rust. Shute came home third, with Chase Weimer and Cole Czareneski finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

While Berry was dominating the Modified portion of the event, he was also competing in the 55-car-strong IMCA Stock car class paying $5,000 to the victor. During Friday’s night qualifying races, Berry finished seventh in his first heat race and won his second in his No. 11x machine. On Saturday, he finished as runner-up in his heat and rolled off 17th in the 50-lap main event. He ran into trouble and was unable to complete the race, ultimately recording a 24th-place result.
