Ryan Unzicker salvages 12th in Nippy 50 finale at Maquoketa
The 2024 season kicked off for the El Paso Express over the weekend as the inaugural Nippy 50 drew 26 Late Models to Maquoketa Speedway (Maquoketa, Iowa) for the two-day event.
On Friday, Ryan Unzicker raced into the opener with a third-place finish in his heat race. With a $10,000 top prize up for grabs, Unzicker suffered a broken lift-arm bracket early in his pursuit for a top-10 that sidelined him on the 15th circuit.
Back at the quarter-mile oval on Saturday, Unzicker backed up the 14th-fastest qualifying effort with a fifth-to-third run in his heat race. Starting the $20,000-to-win Nippy 50 finale in eighth, Ryan rebounded to finish 12th in the 50-lapper after shredding a tire on lap 25 while running ninth.
