Mitchell competes in USMTS opener at Hunt County Raceway
Texarkana, Texas, native Jon Mitchell traveled to Greenville in the Lone Star State on Friday and Saturday to take part in the season opener for the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).
Mitchell was one of 49 Modified drivers at the quarter-mile track on Friday for the first night of the ninth annual USMTS Texas Winter Nationals. He drove his W&W Timber No. 5 ride to a fourth-place finish in his heat and 13th in his consolation race, ending his evening before the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.
On Saturday, with 50 USMTS Modifieds in the pits, Mitchell nabbed the win in his heat. He then started on the pole in the finale paying $5,000 to win for the second consecutive night. Although he started in prime position, Mitchell took a hard hit during the 50-lap A-Main and finished 20th.
