Shirley eighth in Wieland Winternationals prelim at East Bay
Bob Cullen Racing and Brian Shirley returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) on Tuesday at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) as the Florida oval hosted the final Wieland Winternationals.
In a stacked field of 75 cars, Brian’s second-place heat performance positioned him on the sixth row for the opener. With a $5,000 top prize up for grabs, Shirley rolled to a consistent 12th-place finish.
On Wednesday, Shirley followed up a fourth-place finish in his heat with a consolation victory. Wheeling his way into the top-10 in the feature, Brian passed 11 cars to place eighth.
Relying on a provisional into Thursday’s prelim, Brian took the green in 26th and marched up to 13th in the 40-lapper.
For the fifth round of the Wieland Winternationals on Friday, Shirley started the main event in 22nd via runner-up consolation run and went onto finish 14th.
His Wieland Winternationals came to an early on Saturday after scratching from his B-Main.
