Holcombe finds victory lane twice at East Bay Raceway Park during Winter Nationals
Heading down South for warmer weather, Austin Holcombe rolled into East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the first night of the DIRTcar-sanctioned Modified Winter Nationals.
With a whopping 76 entries at the track, Holcombe found himself in third qualifying group where he would time in second fastest. Rolling off from the front row in the third preliminary feature of the night, Austin quickly took the top spot and dominated the 25-lap feature to pick up the victory.
On Tuesday afternoon, Austin once again lined up on the front row of the 25-lap feature. Outrunning Will Krup and Chris Wilson to the checkered flag, Holcombe led flag-to-flag to score his second victory of the week.
With a format change for Wednesday's event, Holcombe topped his qualifying group which earned him the seventh-place starting spot in the one 25-lap feature of the night. Moving forward three positions, Austin finished inside the Top-5 in fifth.
In Thursday's feature, Holcombe was running inside the Top-10 when contact with another competitor sent him spinning. He was scored 23rd in the final rundown.
Looking for better luck on Friday, Austin started the feature just outside the Top-10 in 11th and recorded a 15th-place outing after 25 laps.
For Saturday's $5,000-to-win finale, Holcombe was victorious in his heat race which placed him on the sixth-row for the 75-lap showdown. Running inside the Top-10 for most of the feature, Austin slipped out of the Top-10 to finish 12th.
