Brian Shirley visits Golden Isles for Super Bowl of Racing
Joining the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) for their 2024 speedweeks opener, Brian Shirley unloaded the Bob Cullen Racing No. 3s Late Model at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Thursday for the General Tire Super Bowl of Racing.
After getting buried in time trials, Shirley revived his chances of qualifying for the opener with a ninth-to-fifth run in his heat. Needing to place second or better in his consolation race, Brian fell two spots short with a fourth-place outing.
Back at the 4/10-mile oval on Saturday after Mother Nature axed Friday’s program, Brian backed up the 20th-fastest qualifying lap in his group with a fifth-place finish in his heat. Transferring into a B-Main, Shirley missed a transfer spot by one car with a third-place showing, necessitating the use of a provisional into the $25,000-to-win Super Bowl of Racing finale. Pinned on the 14th row, Brian gained eight spots in the 60-lapper to cap off the weekend with a 20th-place finish.
