Fifth-place finish for Stormy in Wild West Shootout finale

With Stormy sitting out Wednesday’s program, Johnny Scott returned to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) for the third round of the Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.

Lined up on the fifth row for the feature via a second-place showing in his heat, Johnny jumped up two spots to place eighth.

Joined by his brother Stormy on Friday, Johnny relied on a third-place finish in his B-Main to make the show while Stormy squeezed in with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Both drivers moved forward in their respective features, with Stormy finishing ninth and Johnny crossing the line in 14th.

On Saturday, Stormy followed up a heat race victory with a third-place finish in the feature. He stood alongside Bobby Pierce and Brandon Sheppard on the podium at the end of the 40-lapper. Johnny lost three positions in his A-Main to finish 21st.

The Wild West Shootout drew to an early end for Johnny on Sunday after he retired on lap 13 of the 25-lap finale. Stormy’s second-place finish in his heat race on Sunday secured him the sixth-starting position for the $25,000-to-win A-Main. Muscling forward one spot in the 50-lap affair, Stormy notched a fifth-place finish, which came behind Kyle Larson, Mike Marlar, Cade Dillard, and Garrett Alberson.
