Thornton tops IMCATV Winter Nationals on Wednesday at Cocopah

Dylan Thornton returned Cocopah Speedway (Somerton, Ariz.) on Wednesday afternoon to pull double duty in the Modified and Stock Car ranks for the final four nights of the Playa Azul Seypet Resorts IMCATV Winter Nationals.

Aboard the Leland Hibdon-owned PEL1 A Stock Car and the Blaine & Brady Bjella fielded No. 99DT Modified, Thornton’s night came to an early end in the Stock Car feature on lap 14 but he was able to rebound by moving forward Modified A-Main. Starting in 21st via an impressive 12th-to-2nd showing in his B-Main, Dylan advanced seven positions to finish 14th.

On Thursday, Dylan was awarded his second win of the season in the Stock Car feature after the initial race winner was disqualified. He finished ahead of Rob VanMil, Cameron Starry, Chaz Baca, and Matt Crafton in the final rundown. A flat right-rear tire in the No. 99DT Modified led to an early exit on the seventh circuit of the 25-lapper.

After getting sidelined by a broken trailing arm in Stock Car ranks on Friday, Thornton improved four cars in the Modified A-Main to finish 11th.

Thornton capped off the final night of the Playa Azul Seypet Resorts IMCATV Winter Nationals with a podium run in the Modified feature. He chased Chaz Baca and Tim Ward across the line with Troy Morris III and Ethan Braaksma rounding out the Top-5. He sat out Saturday's finale in the PEL1 A Stock Car
